I-Search Part II
So far, my research has mostly consisted of information I already knew from previous research, as well as internet sources. I am still planning on trying to find book sources from the library, as well as find journal articles that pertain to my topic.
So far from my research, I have noticed that physician assisted suicide is still a very controversial topic; however, it is not as big of a topic today as it was in the late 1900’s. I think this is because although it is a known controversy, there is not much going on that has to deal with physician assisted suicide, which is not keeping the topic in the public eye. The topic first became popular in the 1970’s because of Karen Ann Quinlan case which was later known as the first legal case in the “right to die” movement. Physician assisted suicide reached its peak debates in the 1990’s when the Kevorkian trials were going on. This debate was so popular at the time because people could take a side; they either agreed with the actions of Jack Kevorkian, or they were against it. I think this is also less of a controversial topic now because many places are fighting to legalize it. Several states have already legalized physician assisted suicide which has helped show the public that there is nothing wrong with the action, if there is enough restrictions on the legalization.
I still want to find more research on which states are currently fighting to legalize Physician Assisted suicide, as well as what their argument is.
